what does it look like?

If you’re in the market for a lusty, trusty Land Rover for everyday use on road and off, but budget is a priority, it’s hard to beat a late Santana refurbished by Autology, and this one ticks a lot of right boxes. Built from an entirely straight, clean and rust free donor, it has been tastefully updated and refinished throughout to create a handsome and aggressive Defender-bodied Land Rover that is perfect for everyday adventures.

The shell was stipped and refinished in “Anthracite Gray” - a type 1 Volkswagen color from the 1950's with accenting roof and wheel in gloss black.  The grille was replaced with a "modern three-bar style that used integrated LED lighting.  Military style front bumper and shorty rear bumperettes flank the Defender LED tail lamps.  235/70-16 Insa Turbo “Sahara” tread tires give it massive capability in rough terrain.

Inside, the original front bucket seats have been reupholstered in black with white diamond quilted center stitching and white accent piping, for a vintage appearance. Twin folding bench jump seats in the rear have been recovered to match, and new interior carpeting has been hand cut and fitted front and rear.

Underneath, the rust-free chassis is as straight and free from damage as it has always been.

It's beautiful inside and out, with fantastic curb appeal and a wonderfully pleasing cockpit, and it needs nothing except an owner who will use it the way they see fit.



The late Santana is a bit of a mystery to many people. A trusted combination of old and new Land Rover components create something that combines the charm and vintage feel of the Series III with the modernity and comfort of a Defender 90. Built on an evolved Series III chassis, the 2500 uses parabolic leaf springs front and rear and features the trusted 4WD Series III underpinnings, but couples all this to a Defender 2.5L diesel engine and 5-speed gearbox for increased on-road performance and comfort. It features Defender styling and Series III toughness. Not a bad combination.

Always correct and well-kept, the Defender "12J' diesel fires right up and idles smoothly and steadily with no undue smoke or clatter.  The clutch engages correctly with a firm pedal, and the 5-speed gearchange snicks from gear to gear effortlessly.

With a lusty torque delivery and well-spaced gearing, this 2500 pulls well and keeps up with modern traffic on all types of roadways, including highways.  Get it off road, and the legendary Land Rover capabilities come to the fore, with the 2-speed transfer case, parabolic springs and chunky off road rubber allowing you to muscle through or over pretty much any obstacle you are likely to encounter.

The brakes are sure and potent, and the power steering is quiet and quite light, so it goes where you point it and stops when you want it to, from any speed in any conditions.  Everything works.  Every light, every gauge, every switch.
